(PART TWO)

9.) BATTLE LEVELS:

STORY AREA: By clearing this area, you advance the main story along
SIDE AREA: You can enter this area or not, it's up to you
SECRET: Special secret areas that open up after completing certain agenda
HERO: These ultra-dangerous areas are only available after you win the game!

===========
BLACK WOODS
===========
Type: STORY
Enemies: Bats, Mutant Ants, Killer Cats
Boss: Bandit
Treasures: Scale Hammer

    The first area you'll visit is the nearby Black Woods. Here, the enemies aren't too
hard and you can practice using your sword and moving around the map. Make sure to get all
the barrels you can find, and leave any red waters you see on the ground if you don't
need them yet because you probably will really soon. The hardest enemies here are the
Killer Cats. One is located in the big clearing near the starting area, and the other is
towards the back of the bandit's keep. When you think you're ready, enter the large stone
castle on the eastern side of the woods to engage the level's boss, the Bandit. This
bandit is unique in the game, because it's movement pattern is unlike the others. He will
move back and forth fast, and throw daggers at you. The daggers can do up to 5 damage, so
rush up to him (but don't touch his body!) and stab away until he's dead. If you're at
least level 2 by now it shouldn't be too hard. Kill the bandit, and get Prince Zeen's
dirty underwear back that he stole from him.

    You can go back to the Black Woods later after you've purchased the Crush Hammer from
the Blacksmith and smash the boulder in the southeastern corner of the map. Go to the dead
end and walk north, seemingly into the trees. You'll enter a secret cave with a few bats
and a mutant ant but these should be no problem at all by then. The scale hammer is here,
and will get you huge experience points as well as the best new weapon against dragons!

=========
THE WILDS
=========
Type: STORY
Enemies: Mutant Ants, Bandits
Boss: None
Treasures: Zeus Maul, Gold Bag

    This is the first really difficult area of the game, and unfortunately it's right out
of the gate! I suggest keep going back to the Black Woods to get enough money for the
Copper Sword before coming here to fight. Zeen wants you to finish off the rest of the bandit
gang that's hiding in the wilds just north of the Black Woods. In order to clear the area,
you have to kill all SIX of the bandit stragglers- not an easy task for somebody of low levels yet!

    There are a lot of red waters sitting on the ground, but not too many barrels here.
Fortunately, there are a lot of coins sitting on the ground so get 'em. Also, a large pond sits
in the middle of the area, so you have to go around it in order to advance. The bandits
here (and for the rest of the game) will all come after you if they see you, and throw
their daggers at will. They pause for a bit after they throw their daggers to reload, so
strike then! Bandits are notorious for trying to jump your bones too, so try to run and
stab at them because they will keep trying to smash into you. The last bandit you kill will
drop a Treasure Map which is needed for the next few areas ahead.

    This is also the first level where you'll see another of the game's many hazards, the
dreaded spike trap. Step on one of these while the spikes are at their highest point and
you'll be hit for 5 damage, no matter how high your defense power is. The ones here are
surrounding a mini-camp in the northwestern corner of the map, and aside from the bandit
there you'll also see a gold bag. Gold bags are worth a whopping 50 coins, so be sure to
get it!

    Much later, and if you're lucky enough to get the Frost Sword, return to The Wilds with
it equipped. Walk over to the large pond and strike its waters to freeze the entire thing!
Now you can walk on the surface, where you'll see one of the best weapons in the game, the
Zeus Maul! This is excellent for damaging enemies with metal armor like Dark Soldiers.

=============
MOUNTAIN CAVE
=============
Type: SIDE
Enemies: Bats, Mutant Ants, Skeletons
Boss: None
Treasures: Treasure Chest, Silver Sword

    Ah, the first of many caves you'll see. Remember, if you own the Dark Sword it will
do an additional +2 damage to enemies while in places like this. The big threats here are
obviously the skeletons, and there are three of them crammed in this little cave. In order
to clear the level, all you actually NEED to do is open the treasure chest located in the
northwestern room past the spike traps. There's a skeleton in this room, so be careful!

    The treasure chest will almost always drop a few coins, but there is a slim chance you
can get the Silver Sword from it. You may get it the first time you try, you may get it
after 15 times you try. If you can get it, it'll really help you for the werewolf-infested
areas later on in the game.

=========
OLD CRYPT
=========
Type: SIDE
Enemies: Bats, Skeletons, a Helleton
Boss: None
Treasures: Treasure Chest, Grave Mace, Evil Mace

     This is another side area where you are sent out to look for treasure chests, but
unlike the mountain cave, this area is a lot bigger and tougher to clear. The objective is
the same as the mountain cave though- all you really need to do is open the treasure chest
in the large room in the southwestern corner of the crypt. Getting there will not be easy
though!

     There is one thing you should absolutely do the second you get in this area- Walk up
and around the corner to the north wall and head east. You'll see two barrels here. Break
the barrels and walk THROUGH the wall to a secret room! In here, you'll find a few barrels,
coins, and the powerful Grave Mace! Make sure you use it whenever you enter an area with
skeletons, as it crushes the crap outta' them. If you die while in here, don't worry-
you can always return WITH the Grave Mace for revenge!

     The toughest fight in here by far is the lone Helleton who lives in the same room as
the treasure chest you need to open to leave. It moves almost as fast as you, and uses
fire magic to attack you! They are great sources of experience points early on, but are
usually so tough you may want to wait until a bit later before you start hunting them down.
This one Helleton alone has the chance to drop the Evil Mace. But just this Helleton- any
more you meet up with later in the game can't drop it, so if you want it just keep killing
this one.

===============
GREYSLAB SHRINE
===============
Type: STORY
Enemies: Killer Cats, Skeletons, Werewolves
Boss: Ice Mage
Treasures: Sparkling Ruby

     This is a deadly area filled with tough enemies. In the center of the stone pillars,
An Ice Mage Cultist sits and waits for you to be dumb enough to rush in and attack him.
Don't do this, you'll die 99% of the time! There are just too many of his guards around.
The best strategy for this area is to head south and work counter-clockwise around the
outside of the pillars, killing each enemy you see along the way. Eventually, you'll run
into one or both of the werewolves. You can't outrun them, so don't try. They fire their
bow and arrows and then pause for a pretty good length of time while they reload. Use
this time to attack them. You did bring the Silver Sword, right?

     When all the guards are dead, head towards the center of the ring and take on the
Ice Mage man to man. The best thing about him is he won't budge, so you can literally
run circles around him while avoiding his deadly ice magic blasts. Kill him to clear the
area and return to Prince Zeen.

     There is another boulder here in the south of the area, if you followed the above
strategy you have already seen it. Come back here later with the Crush Hammer and smash
this open to find a real treat- The Sparkling Ruby!

==============
STINKY VILLAGE
==============
Type: STORY
Enemies: Bees, Killer Cats, Werewolves
Boss: None
Treasures: Gold Bag, Auction Hammer

     So named for the Easter eggs Prince Zeen hid there and forgot where they were, Stinky
Village's populace left long ago due to the smell of rotten egg. Now, the animals have
moved in to take residence. You need to find all six Easter eggs in order to clear the area.
While looking, don't miss the orange one peeking out from behind one of the houses in the
top row, and the two inside of barrels. Here you'll also encounter your first swarms of
bees. They attack you as soon as you're within range, and will always do 3 damage regardless
of your defense power.

     Later, after you get the Golden Key, come back here and open the locked door of the
most southwestern house to find the Auction Hammer.

============
WITCH DOCTOR
============
Type: STORY
Enemies: Bees, Snakes
Boss: Witch Doctor
Treasures: Rust Axe

      Ah! The first swamp area! Remember, swamps are filled with snakes and bees most of
the time, so keep on your toes and bring a fast-swinging weapon with you. The order of the
day is to defeat the tough boss enemy Witch Doctor. The Witch Doctor can usually be found
in the middle of the swamp, but sometimes will be near his house in the southwest corner.
Defeat him and he will always drop the Rust Axe, an invaluable weapon for later on.

      During this quest, you can see a couple of extra conversations that you can't at any
other time in the game. After the Prince throws you out, try going back in for a laugh. Also,
by walking into the Blacksmith shop while everyone thinks you're sick is a bit funny too.

==================
ZEEN'S BEACH HOUSE
==================
Type: STORY
Enemies: Skeletons, Rattle Snakes, Sand Lizards
Boss: None
Treasures: Gold Bag

      You're awarded the "opportunity" to visit the Liago family beach house. You're even
given the right to take the bag of money inside it. The bag that Zeen took from the sand
lizards who live nearby! Avoid the rattle snakes because they're tougher than the regular
ones. Your best bet might be make a beeline to the beach house itself, collect the gold
bag, then exit the area as quickly as possible. Then, if you enter the area again you can
fight enemies at your leisure, escaping the area at any time by pressing <SHIFT>. It's a
great way to gain experience points!

=========
NINJA DEN
=========
Type: STORY
Enemies: Bats, Ninjas
Boss: None
Treasures: Mercury Ring, Treasure Chest

      Not long after your return from the beach house, Prince Zeen is almost assassinated
by a ninja in the castle! Daxon LOVES ninjas though, and can't wait to go to their lair
and see where "real ninjas" might live at. Unfortunately, it's an extermination mission
once again, so autographs won't be available upon request. This is a very tough level, and
you might die a few times at least while trying to kill every ninja you see. Try to draw
them out one at a time into an area of your choosing where you think you can defeat it. If
you don't own the Dark Sword by now, you may want to purchase it from the Blacksmith before
trying to clear this area.

      A very nice item, the Mercury Ring, is located in a secret room at the end of a long
hidden hallway. You can get to the hallway by heading towards the southernmost ninja room.
From there, head west until you see three barrels up against the wall. Destroy the barrels
and walk west for awhile. Eventually, you'll enter the secret room with the ring and some
minor treasures.

     There is also another locked door here where you can come back and open up after you
get the Golden Key. Inside is a treasure chest, and aside from the normal few coins that
drop from opening it, the first time you open it will also have a gold bag. Nice!

=============
SNAPPY'S PARK
=============
Type: SIDE
Enemies: Bats, Bees, Snakes
Boss: None
Treasures: Jalepeno Pepper

     This is the one area in Captain of the Guard that plays completely different from the
others. It is here where you can opt to walk Zeen's giant pet snapping turtle, Snappy. He
is so big, in fact, that you actually RIDE him like a horse! This area can be difficult,
because damage is done to you by using Snappy's defense power (which sucks) instead of
your own. There are also two spike traps that you WILL get hit by, and bees that ol'
Snappy just can't seem to kill!

     This area is done as a side scrolling, left and right job. Weapons matter not here,
for by pressing <SPACE BAR> you command Snappy to open his mighty jaws to attack the enemy.
It is REALLY tough to guage just when to attack though, and the bats especially give him
a tough time because they attack from above you! Basically, it's a survial level- just
bust on through until the end and hope you live to tell the tale.

     At the end of the park, you'll see a Jalepeno Pepper on the ground. Don't ask me just
HOW it works, but it raises your defensive power by +1, one of only two items in the game
that grants a bonus to defensive power!

===========
JAGGED PEAK
===========
Type: SIDE
Enemies: Werewolves, Grizzly Bears
Boss: None
Treasures: Magic Arrow, Frost Sword

     Set atop the highest mountain range, this is a freezing cold area for you to have fun
in! And by fun, I mean get killed in LOL! The first thing you'll notice about Jagged Peak
is that you now slide a bit when you walk due to the frozen ground. The second thing you'll
notice is that there are a TON of werewolves in the surrounding pine forest. If you have
the Silver Sword, consider bringing it with you here. The real danger here though are the
three bears (yes, like the story) that live on the outskirts of the forest. They are just
GIGANTIC, so you can hide in the forest and pick them off right? WRONG! Grizzly Bears can
smash and destroy any pine trees that get in their way to killing you. Use the time it
takes them to destroy a tree to get a free stab in with your weapon. If you are confidant
in your werewolf killing skills without the Silver Sword, you might want to bring a powerhouse
weapon like the Battle Axe when dealing with these huge bears. You need to kill everything
in the area to clear it, so this makes for one of the hardest areas in the game.

     As if killing bears weren't enough of a pain, if you want a very "cool" weapon you may
have to kill dozens of them during the game! The Frost Sword is a rare drop from Grizzly
Bears, so hope you can get one within your first few kills or it'll be a looooong day!

     But rejoice, for probably THE best treasure in the game is also hidden here, and you
can actually use one of those hated bears to get it for you. All you need to do is get a
Grizzly to follow you towards the western side of the map, and try to lure him into the
pine trees there so he'll start breaking them down. Under one of them lies the Magic Arrow,
that effectively doubles all experience points you get from enemies!

=========
ARMY CAMP
=========
Type: STORY
Enemies: Dark Soldiers
Boss: Garror
Treasures: Golden Key, Hero Flail

      The first time you saw these guys was during a small cutscene just after Zeen told
you about the army up north. You can try to pick off the Dark Soldiers as they wait in
their mini-camps around the forest, or you can head directly north and take on Garror right
away. Either way, be SURE to bring either the Rust Axe or Zeus Maul with you because every
enemy here has at least 10 defense power and are weak against lightning. Defeat Garror to
clear the area, and he also drops the Golden Key which you can use to backtrack to earlier
levels and open locked doors.

      There is also a small chance that one of the Dark Soldiers will drop that cool flail
they use to try and kill you, the Hero Flail. Only the soldiers in this area have a chance
to drop it though, so if you're looking to collect every weapon make sure you hunt them
here for the flail.

=========
DRY SANDS
=========
Type: SIDE
Enemies: Rattle Snakes, Skeletons, Sand Lizards, Fire Mages
Boss: None
Treasures: Leech Mace

       This is yet another difficult side area where you'll need to kill almost every
enemy in order to escape it. Set in the scorching desert, every desert animal is out looking
for food, namely you! This also marks the first appearance of the dreaded Fire Mages. If
you have the Rune Hammer, bring it with you to stop them from casting their dangerous fire
blasts! There are many other hazards here too, like spike traps and cactuses. If you explore
this area fully, you will discover not one but TWO secret underground caves located near
the cactus and palmtree clusters. Just walk north from the bottom and you'll find them
eventually. Watch out though, because rattle snakes love to escape the sun's heat by hiding
in these caves!

       Towards the southwestern corner of the map there are two boulders. Bring the Crush
Hammer here with you to smash the boulders and find the leech mace hidden under one of them!

=============
DRAGON CAVERN
=============
Type: SIDE
Enemies: Bats, Dragons
Boss: None
Treasures: Treasure Hoarde, Dragon Tooth, Rune Hammer

       One of the hardest side areas so far. In order to clear it, you have to defeat both
dragons that live in this cavern. If you're feeling frisky, you can attempt to steal their
immense treasure hoarde in the back of the cavern- you know, the one surrounded by rows of
spike traps? If you do, it's worth 250 gold coins!!! The only strategy I can suggest to you
is make sure you bring the Scale Hammer and fight the dragons one at a time. Otherwise,
you're dead meat!

       Towards the right side of the rear of the cavern where you'll see the second dragon
is a dragon tooth on the ground. Make sure to get it! It will give you +1 damage to any
weapon you hold, making it one of the finest treasures of all!

       As if killing dragons wasn't hard enough, if you want the best mage-killing weapon
in the game you may have to kill many of them. There is a slight chance that a dragon will
drop the mighty ancient Rune Hammer. Only in this cave will you have the chance though, so
keep coming back to hunt these two dragons if you're serious about getting the weapon.

================
STONE WALL FIELD
================
Type: STORY
Enemies: Ninjas, Fire Mages, Dark Soldiers
Boss: Invisidude
Treasures: None

       Well, this is it! The final story area of the game where you must kill the arch mage
Invisidude and stop the enemy army's advance into your kingdom once and for all. This is
for sure the hardest area you've seen yet, as spike traps decorate the vast field full of
huge mortar walls. Hell, it's even raining, boo! You can try to take out each enemy along
the way but I wouldn't. There are just too few barrels here to get enough of the red and
purple waters you'll need to survive fighting them all. Weapon of choice for this level is
the Rune Hammer as it even seals the mighty Invisidude's magic, taking out his greatest
threat in a single strike. If you can't get the hammer, you can use the Venom Sword or a
slow heavy weapon like the Battle Axe. Just be careful not to run into where he is when he
turns invisible, because you WILL get hurt! Defeat him to clear the area and win the game..

================
BANDIT'S HIDEOUT
================
Type: SECRET
Enemies: Bats, Bandits, a Skeleton
Boss: None
Treasures: Treasure Chest, Silver Sword

        This will likely be the first secret area you find. After you've killed 20 bandits,
the bandit's hideout will appear on the world map screen just east of Zeen's Castle. It's
not a very big level but every bandit you kill here has a small chance to drop whole GOLD
BAGS! This is also where the third and final locked door is, so if you have the Golden Key
you can unlock the door. The area is cleared when you kill the lone skeleton at the east
end of the hideout.

        In the room with the locked door is a treasure chest and two barrels. This chest
will almost always drop gold coins, but like the chest in the Mountain Cave area has a small
chance to drop the Silver Sword. That gives you two chances total to try and get the stupid
thing!

=================
HAUNTED GRAVEYARD
=================
Type: SECRET
Enemies: Bats, Skeletons, Helletons, a Demonite
Boss: None
Treasures: None

        You may not ever see this area, unless you really love killing skeletons. You have
to kill at least 100 (!) total skeletons and helletons in order to see the haunted graveyard.
The helletons have a chance to drop gold bags and are good experience points, so this is a
nice little area to stomp around in. Oh, and regardless of the tough demonite here bring
the Grave Mace with you because the undead outnumber the demonite by a ton!!

================
SERPENT's GROTTO
================
Type: SECRET
Enemies: Snakes
Boss: Giant Serpent
Treasures: Venom Sword

         You'd think that killing a ton of helpless snakes wouldn't invoke anybody's wrath,
right? WRONG! Kill 50 of the little guys and you have a change to take it on home to the
queen of the snakes, the Giant Serpent herself! To make things worse, there is literally
nowhere to hide from her or her snake guardians. Because she moves so slow, powerful weapons
like the Battle Axe are the order of the day here. Killing her will get you the Venom Sword,
one of the best weapons available in the game.

===============
OCEANIC VOLCANO
===============
Type: HERO
Enemies: Bats, Helletons, Demonites
Boss: None
Treasures: None

          The first test of the true hero lies inside a giant volcano located in the north-
west corner of the world map. Inside, you'll find a deadly cavern full of flame-spewing
Helletons and Ice-chucking Demonites! The good news here is that they all have a good chance
to drop gold bags, and that there are a lot of barrels to smash open for potions and coins.
The bad news is that you need to kill every last one of them in order to escape! Not only
that, but most of the floor is oozing with lava! Touch a lava bubble and you'll be burnt
for 2 damage regardless of your defense power. Hey, that's why it's for a HERO, right!?
Weapons to condsider bringing in with you: The Rune Hammer will seal their fire and ice magic,
the Grave Mace will crush the Helletons, and the Frost Sword will hurt the Demonites more.

=========
DEATH BOG
=========
Type: HERO
Enemies: Dragons, a Black Dragon
Boss: None
Treasures: Mercury Axe

          Well, this is the second test of the true hero and it's a real doozy! Now, with a
name like "Death Bog" you probably thought this'd be a cakewalk, and you'd be wrong of course.
Within the clearing of this rainy, skull-filled bog lies three dragons and an ultra-powerful
Black Dragon! Confront them all and death is assured. Bring your Scale Hammer! Kill the Black
Dragon to clear the area, although you can kill the others too if you want to.

          The best weapon in the game is a rare drop from the Black Dragon, of all things! Just
killing ONE of the beasts should prove neigh-impossible for anyone but the true hero, so you
may give up long before holding the magnificient Mercury Axe!!

10.) CLOSING
